Pretreatment
The surface must be clean, dry, and solid. Wire brush, scrape, or sand the surface and remove loose, porous, and degraded wood. Wash with Hagmans Deck Wash and complement with Hagmans Maintenance Wash on mold- or fungus-affected surfaces. Rinse thoroughly with water.
-
Application
The surface should be dry. Stir the oil well from the bottom before oiling. Apply with a brush, dipping, or cloth until the wood is saturated. Wait about 20 minutes and then wipe off all excess oil with a cloth or sponge. The wood oil should penetrate the surface, not form a film on top. Be careful not to paint in direct sunlight or if it is colder than +5°C. The treatment is repeated if necessary when the surface starts to dry out. Sunny sides and unsaturated wood may need to be oiled several times a year. Chinese wood oil is not suitable as a base oil due to its high solids content. Tip: If the surface feels sticky after a few days, you can afterwards moisten the surface with naphtha (aliphatic naphtha) and wipe off the excess.
-
After painting
Wipe the tools thoroughly before cleaning in paint thinner or aliphatic naphtha. Close the can tightly after use and keep out of reach of children.
NOTE! Cloths soaked in oil can be self-igniting and must therefore be placed in water.
