Eco-labels and assessment systems

Environmental labels and assessments are important tools for ensuring that products meet high standards for environmental performance, health, and quality. They are based on independent evaluation and clear criteria, providing guidance for both professional users and consumers. Below, we describe the most common environmental labels and assessment systems we work with, what they represent, and how they are used.

EU ECOLABEL

The EU Ecolabel, also known as the EU Flower, is the official eco-label of the European Union and corresponds to the Nordic Swan at the European level. Like the Nordic Swan, it is based on a life cycle perspective and a holistic approach where environment, health, and quality are considered together.

The EU Ecolabel is also a Type 1 label, meaning independent verification and clearly defined criteria that are continuously updated.

Emission classification
M1 classification

M1 is a voluntary Finnish emission classification for building materials and interior products. The classification focuses on low emissions and a good indoor environment and includes requirements for VOC levels, formaldehyde, ammonia, and odor.

M1 is often used as a quality indicator for products used in environments with high requirements for air quality and indoor comfort.
