Before painting
The surface must be firm, dry, and well cleaned, and sanded with fine sandpaper (grain size 240 or finer). Any residues of grease, oil, or similar substances must first be carefully removed.
-
Painting
The oil is applied with a brush, sponge, or by dipping until the substrate stops absorbing. It can be advantageous to scrub the oil into the wood with a cloth or sponge. After about 20 minutes, all excess, which has not been absorbed into the wood material, is wiped off with a cloth. This may need to be repeated. No worktop oil should remain on the surface. After drying for at least 24 hours, the treatment is repeated if necessary. The oil should penetrate the substrate and must not form a film on top.
Tip: if the surface feels sticky after a few days, the surface can be moistened with naphtha (aliphatic naphtha) afterward and the excess wiped off. -
After painting
Wipe the tools thoroughly before cleaning with white spirit or aliphatic naphtha. Seal the can tightly after use and keep out of reach of children. Repeat the treatment several times if the surface appears to dry out.
NOTE! Rags soaked with oil can spontaneously ignite and must therefore be rendered harmless by being placed in water or burned.
