Technical information
  • Application temperature

The substrate must be clean and dry, with the wood moisture below 18%. The temperature should be -20 – +25 °C and the relative humidity below 80%.

  • Binder

Linseed oil and a mixture of three other natural oils

  • Cleaning

With brush cleaner and water or paint thinner. Remove excess paint from the tools before washing.

  • Density

    1.3-1.4 kg/L

  • Dilution

Virtanen's Boiled Linseed Oil (Outdoor Varnish)

  • Drying time

At +23°C and RH50: 2 – 5 days, repaintable after the previous surface is touch-dry. The drying time depends greatly on air circulation, light, and humidity. The lighter, drier, and better the air circulates, the faster the paint dries. Under good conditions, repaintable after 1-2 days. Virtanen's siccative significantly speeds up the paint's drying time (max. 2%).

  • Gloss

Semi-matte, the gloss fades over time

  • Material consumption

    4-8m²/L

  • Storage

Cool and dry place. Can withstand cold storage. Opened jars should be stored in a warm place.

  • VOC category

    EU VOC limit (cat. A/d): 300 g/l. Product's VOC: max. 300 g/l

  • Volume Solids

    83% %

Application
  • Pretreatment

Clean the surface of dirt, loose material, and poorly adhering old paint. First, wash dirty surfaces with Hagmans Painter's Wash according to the instructions. If the surface has a lot of algae growth, combine the cleaning with Hagmans Algae Wash according to the instructions.

  • Application

Untreated, primed, worn lasered surface or surface painted with red paint:
    • Base coat with Virtasen 4 Oils Color diluted with 10% Virtasen Boiled Linseed Oil (Ute-Fernissa).
    • Surface paint 1–2 times with undiluted paint.
Surface previously painted with oil or acrylate paint, or a timber surface that is over 3 years old:
    • Prime the untreated surfaces with Virtasen 4 Oljors Färg diluted with 10% Virtasen Boiled Linseed Oil (Ute-Fernissa).
    • Surface paint 1–2 times with undiluted paint.
New (less than 3 years old) timber or solid wood surface:
    • Paint a layer of undiluted Virtasen 4 Oljors Färg, approx. 8 m²/litre.
    • Paint the second layer 3–10 years after the first painting. On sunny sides, if necessary, the painting can be done already after 2 years.
    • On new log houses, only one layer is painted, because fresh solid wood contains a lot of resin and extractive substances. The paint layer is left thin so that the resin and extractives can evaporate as well as possible through
    the color.
    • Note! This instruction only applies when painting new solid, lamella or round timber as well as CLT wooden constructions, etc. with a thickness over 80
    etc.
Note! Especially on the south wall, the maintenance painting interval is significantly extended by the total number
paint layers are increased to three, including the base paint.

  • After painting

An oil-based product can appear somewhat yellowish when painting in white while it is wet, but it lightens as it dries.

  • Maintenance

The paint reaches its final hardness and durability under normal conditions in approximately 4 weeks. After that, the painted surface can be easily cleaned by wiping. Use a damp cleaning cloth, a soft sponge, or similar as a tool. Coarse brushing, strong cleaning agents, and vigorous scrubbing should be avoided.

  • Recycling

Sort the empty and dry metal packaging in the metal collection. Sort empty and dry plastic packaging as mixed waste. Deliver liquid product residues to the collection for hazardous waste. Do not release paint into the ground, watercourses, or drains.
