Product description
Balsam turpentine is a vegetable-based solvent used to thin paint, varnish, oil, tar, and to make various paint mixtures. Balsam turpentine helps the paint, oil, tar to penetrate and protect the wood. Also excellent for cleaning brushes and tools from paint. -
Area of application
Balsam turpentine is used in various tar mixtures, wood oils, and for thinning paints. When impregnating with Chinese Wood Oil or Linseed Oil, the oil is diluted with 30-50% balsam turpentine; this is to allow the oil to penetrate the wood and to speed up the drying time. In the production of Roslags mahogany, tar is mixed with equal parts balsam turpentine and linseed oil.
When working indoors, the smell of balsam turpentine can be troublesome. If it is bothersome, we recommend using a 3M Short-term Mask 4251. Balsam turpentine can also cause allergic reactions, and one should use eye protection and work gloves.
